FP McCann Precast Concrete Architectural Facade Panels and Balconies Feature on Luxury Hyde Park Development
FP McCann’s architectural facade division provided bespoke precast concrete solutions for a prestigious new residential development in the heart of London. The Smithfield Residences, a modern 12-storey building, offers 80 high-end one to four-bedroom apartments, combining luxury living with cutting-edge design.
Located in one of London’s most desirable areas, the development overlooks Smithfield Market and boasts state-of-the-art amenities, including a rooftop garden, private cinema, wellness center, and underground parking. The £300 million project was awarded to renowned contractor, Bellway Construction, and completed earlier this year.
The design, created by award-winning architects Foster + Partners, incorporates unique precast concrete elements that complement the surrounding urban environment. The building features a striking combination of smooth, polished precast concrete cladding, textured panels, and intricate stone inlays, blending seamlessly with the city’s rich architectural heritage.
FP McCann’s expertise in delivering high-quality precast concrete solutions made them the natural choice for this project. Collaborating closely with Bellway Construction and Foster + Partners, FP McCann provided bespoke acid-etched cladding units, custom-designed architectural precast panels, and precast balconies that fit perfectly into the building's modern design.
FP McCann worked with installation partner C&R Construction to ensure a smooth and efficient process, employing a just-in-time delivery system from their state-of-the-art factory in Bedfordshire. This method reduced on-site assembly time, minimised waste, and ensured the highest quality in each unit. The architectural panels were installed with minimal disruption, maintaining the project's strict timeline.
A total of 120 precast concrete cladding panels were installed, 70 of which were acid-etched and featured a bespoke finish that echoes the surrounding stonework. 50 custom-designed stone inlaid panels completed the design, offering a contemporary aesthetic while complementing the traditional materials of the area. Additionally, 80 precast balconies were supplied in matching tones to enhance the building’s overall appearance.
Commenting on the project, Sarah Jameson, Project Manager for Bellway Construction, says: “FP McCann’s contributions to the Smithfield Residences project were integral to our success. Their approach to off-site manufacturing allowed us to maintain our construction schedule while ensuring exceptional product quality. The precast facade not only reduced the need for scaffolding but also eliminated several on-site challenges, such as weather-related delays and the requirement for wet trades. The seamless integration of these products into the project significantly reduced costs and enhanced both efficiency and safety.”
